Transworld Publishers and Sir Terry Pratchett have announced a contest for new writers.

The contest, called the Terry Pratchett Anywhere But Here, Anywhen But Now Prize, is open to writers over 18 years old who live in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, or the British Commonwealth and who have never published a full-length work of fiction.

The novel must be set on Earth and adhere to the known laws of science, but that Earth can be a past, present or future Earth, and it can be an Earth in a parallel universe or with an alternate history.

To enter, the author must submit a complete novel, written in English, of not less than 80,000 words and not more than 150,000 words. It must be submitted by e-mail by 31 December 2010. The full conditions for entry are available at Terry Pratchett’s website.

A shortlist of six finalists will be released on 31 March 2011, and the winner of the contest will be announced by the end of May 2011. The winning author will be offered a contract to publish his or her entry by Transworld Publishers with a £20,000 advance.

Employees of Transworld Publishers, The Random House Group Limited or any other company connected to the competition, and their families, are not eligible to compete.
