Activision has just released Singularity, its new first-person sci-fi shooter developed by Raven Software.

Raven has been on the go for twenty years, and is responsible for the likes of Soldier of Fortune, Jedi Knight and Wolfenstein games in the past.

Singularity not only presents the player with various big guns to blast enemies away, but also a time manipulation device.

In fact, the story revolves around time being warped, in a Russian base filled with secrets from the cold war era which threaten to destroy the universe as we know it. Expect time waves which shift you back and forth between 1955 and 2010, complete with “time-ravaged creatures”.

You’ll also be able to bring objects from the past back into existence, and duck for cover behind them, or throw them at enemies.

An interesting sounding multiplayer mode is promised, with a team of Russian special forces pitted against a team of monsters from another time sporting various weird and wonderful powers. The Phase Tick, for example, can defy gravity, which could make for a stomach-churning experience for both the player and his or her enemies.

“Singularity seamlessly combines a heart-racing, story-driven experience with epic sci-fi combat and gameplay,” said Brian Raffel, Studio Director at Raven Software. “This new title reflects our heartfelt passion to bring an all new, fresh experience to the first person action community. We can’t wait to take the action online!”

Singularity is out on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, with an 18 rating.
