Christopher Eccleston made a pretty darn good Doctor Who, we thought.
When he brought the Doc back to our screens for the contemporary reinvention of the series, he did a bang up job. Like all good Doctors, he captured a certain eccentricity and charm, without coming across as a pillock.
Okay, so not everyone was fond of him, but the majority of viewers seemed to agree he suited the role. So why did he leave after just one season?
The BBC reports that speaking to the Radio Times, Eccleston simply said that he wasn’t comfortable working on the show.
“I didn’t enjoy the environment and the culture that we, the cast and crew, had to work in”, he told the Radio Times.
“I thought if I stay in this job, I’m going to have to blind myself to certain things that I thought were wrong.”
A rather intriguing statement that leaves us wondering what exactly was “wrong” in the production.
Of course, he didn’t elaborate on any specifics. He did add that he was very proud of his work as the Doctor, though. And so he should be.
