Avatar, the film about the not-so-little blue folk from another planet, continues to smash records.
Not content with sinking Titanic’s position as the biggest grossing film of all time, exceeding it by 50% in fact, it’s now setting new records on Blu-ray.
20th Century Fox claims that in just four days after release in the US and Canada, the movie shifted 2.7 million Blu-ray discs, a new record (putting the previous holder, The Dark Knight, in the shadows).
And in the UK, the Avatar Blu-ray disc has also spun its way to a new first day sales record.
According to a BBC report, the film sold 223,000 copies on its opening day, which again outdid The Dark Knight, the previous holder of that title.
Of course, another big plus that Avatar holds over Titanic is that a sequel can (and naturally will) be produced for the film.
Avatar 2 is due to be set underwater, in the oceans of Pandora rather than its forests and cliff-tops.
Titanic 2 would have had to be set underwater as well, and would probably have been one of the shortest films ever made.
