When an Oscar winner announces that his next film a mild sci-fi story will be filmed in 3D you know that technology has made a serious impact on the way that films are going to be produced in the future.

3D quite literally adds a new dimension to films, especially films that use CGI to produce a background and Martin Scorsese has seen from such films as Avatar, that the use of 3D can give a film more depth.

The film is The Invention of Hugo Cabret, it is basically a kid’s film about a boy living in a railway station in Paris and how he tries to mend a damaged robot.

This is ideal 3D material, as CGI will no doubt be used in many scenes, The Invention of Hugo Cabret will be released in December 2011.
