There must be a time when the producers of a show with a new actor taking the lead worry if they have made the right decision.
However, if there ever were any worries at the BBC, these were blown away when Doctor Who returned to the screens at the weekend; the viewing figures vary from 7.5 million to 8.4 million viewers. So even with that wide spread, Doctor Who beat off all competition from rival channels.
In fact to compare Harry Hill’s TV Burp had 3.5 million viewers and the BBC’s Over the Rainbow came in with 5.5 million viewers.
Obviously as this was the first episode with a new Doctor and assistant the figures are going to be high, but the series is off to a good start and the eleventh Doctor looks to have hit the ground running.
