Sir Ian McKellen has let it slip on his website that filming for the Hobbit and its sequel is to begin later on in the year and that casting is already taking place in New York, LA and London.
Naturally, there will be no casting necessary for Sir Ian, as he will be returning as Gandalf the Grey when filming starts in New Zealand this July.
The films will be prequels to the Lord of the Rings and yet the scripts are still being worked on, so things are definitely moving off in the right direction, it is a matter of putting all of the pieces together, that is the job of the producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh.
The Mexican director Guillermo del Toro of Hell Boy fame will be in the director’s chair this time.
