Hero Engine has been used with such classics as the online versions of Dungeons and Dragons and of course, Guild Wars.

These classic games are to be joined by a new MMO game being developed by Pitch Black Games.

According to Simutronics the developers of the Hero Engine, the system has been licensed to developers who do not want to spend time and money developing something that can easily be licensed.

Along with Pitch Black Games, the next gen MMO game engine will be used by BioWare in the much awaited Star Wars: The Old Republic, something that the Hero Engine is aptly named for.

By using the Hero Engine, this means that the developers can concentrate on the real work of creating a great MMO instead of spending time on the back end stuff.
