When it comes to science fiction writing and in particular writing for Dr Who, it would be assumed that the talent employed would be die-hard science fiction writers that live their entire lives thinking about storylines and characters.

However, it seems that when it comes to Dr Who, the rules do not apply. As series producer, Steven Moffat confirms by bringing on board, Simon Nye (Men Behaving Badly) and Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral) who will both write an episode for the series.

Some fans may think that this is madness, as Dr Who is clearly not a comedy. Nevertheless, both Curtis and Nye are at the top of the writing tree and therefore have a lot of influence within the BBC, but can they write for Dr Who? Only time will tell and the fans will let them know what they think.
