In the past it has been a regular feature that studios try and get as much out of their investments as possible.
This has meant that films that came out on video, were released on DVD, then digitally re-mastered, re-released in HD, then Blu-ray and now it seems that there is another format that studios can cash in on and that is 3D.
Retro formatting is planned for Star Wars and Lord of the Rings; it seems that it would cost around £6 million to turn Star Wars: A New Hope into a 3D experience and might only take around four months to complete.
When you think of it, most science fiction films could benefit from being re-released in 3D; it’s just a matter of cost versus sales.
