Good ratings for “The Waters of Mars”

It was the penultimate episode of Dr Who for David Tennant and over nine million tuned in to watch The Waters of Mars, which is a fair figure when compared to the last Dr Who outing the Planet of the Dead, which managed to attract 8.4 million viewers.
Although in viewing figure terms the show was the sixth most watched on television over the week, Dr Who cannot really be compared with any other programme other than Dr Who or Torchwood, so to compare The Waters of Mars with the X Factor would be wrong.
According to sci-fi site sfx.co.uk, the show managed to attract a massive 310,000 viewers on the BBC HD channel. If this is a true reflection of the viewing figures, then it could be the largest audience for BBC HD so far.
