They say that creative people often come up similar ideas, so is there s fine line between a blatant rip off and just two people coming up with the same ideas.
It seems that the much awaited 3D film Avatar is very similar to a short story called Call Me Joe, written by Poul Anderson in 1957.
The Anderson story follows a paraplegic character that connects through a telepathic link to an artificial creature that lives on another planet, gradually as he spends more time away from the real world; he is tempted to stay permanently.
The similarities are there and it is probably possible to find such similarities between books and films.
However, it seems that James Cameron had some problems in the past when the Terminator allegedly used ideas from the Outer Limits; this was settled out of court.
