A prequel to the 1982 film The Thing could start production as early as the beginning of 2010, despite several changes being planned for the script that has already been written by Battlestar Galactica writer Ronald D Moore.

Eric Heisserer is doing the reworking; he was behind A Nightmare on Elm Street. The original draft had the brother of RJ MacReady played by Kurt Russell in the 1982 film in, but it is not known if it will continue along those lines.

The film will look at what happened before the film started, for anyone that can remember it was a Norwegian scientist being chased by the Thing, which had taken the appearance of a dog.

It looks as if prequels are the way to go, instead of remaking a film a prequel set just before the film seem to be a favourite route for filmmakers, does that mean we will eventually see prequels of the prequels.
