It was only back in 2005 when the last King Kong film was made and even then, there must have been plans for another for the book Kong: King of Skull Island by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland was already published before the film was made.
According to Variety, production company Spirit have acquired the rights to book, which charts the rise of Kong and how the gorilla ended up king of the island.
In the story there are other gorillas and dinosaurs too, all of whom play a part in rise of Kong. This is a story that has never been seen before; it follows the trend in films of this nature to explain how the characters got to where they are.
The new film will be making full use of motion capture technology to bring the characters alive.
