He is the UK’s equivalent to “Flash Gordon” but “Dan Dare” has been away for while, although there have been several attempts to revive him, in film and TV.
Now it seems that Chorion the children’s entertainment company have got their hands on the publishing rights to the comic series that was such a hit during the fifties and sixties. They plan to bring back the character next year.
At its height, the comic was selling around a million copies per week, which is a huge figure to comprehend, but in those days, comics were one of the main sources of kid’s entertainment.
The TV and film rights are still held by Virgin Comics, and although there has been little heard from the character in recent times, it was not through the want of trying.
There have been several attempts to bring out a TV series based on the stories, the last being in 2002, but these have never got past the planning stages.
