The Lensman set to become an epic

Classic science fiction is about to return to the big screen, this time it is EE Doc Smiths classic “Lensman” that is getting the 21st century treatment, although it has to be said sometimes those classic black and white features from the forties do have a certain style to them.
The Lensman centres on a galactic war between two super powers, but this is not modern science fiction, this is classic space battle stuff where ships are boarded and the crews fight hand to hand combat.
The story will be brought to life by the Babylon 5 creator, J. Michael Straczynski. For many people B5 was the definitive science fiction story and there are hopes that the Lensman will follow in that tradition.
It is early days for the Lensman and many things can occur during the planning stages of making a film such as this, but it will be a few years before it hits the screen.

I loved the Lensmen books as a kid, and have every faith in JMS (and Ron Howard’s production company, which optioned the script for him) that this will be an excellent series of movies.
Unfortunately, I have my doubts about another JMS-written project. Max Brook’s zombie epic “World War Z” script was written by JMS, but that “Quantum of Solace” guy Forster doesn’t like the script (too few car chase scenes between the humans and zombies, I’ll wager).
I don’t know what will happen with that one. Chances are it is going from “must see” to “you’ve got to be #%&^%$#^ kidding me!”
Lensman should be a great epic. I certainly hop
Oh this could be promising! I’m just reading Triplanetary,my first read of the Lensman books.
