The last UK venture into Sci-Fi film was “Sunshine” which was all right, but was not considered to be a hit.
The latest UK Sci-Fi project is “Moon” a simple title for a far from simple film.
Despite the mere £3 million budget, this is a film that could literally launch the UK into the genre. Especially when the film is directed by Duncan Jones, the son of David Bowie and produced by Trudie Styler, the wife of singer Sting.
The film as you would expect is based on the moon, where the rare substance Helium 3 is mined, the main character is Sam Bell played by Sam Rockwell, in fact he is the only man on the moon and is due to return home.
There is of course another main character, GERTY. This is the corporation computer with the voice of Kevin Spacey, and yes, there is a little bit of HAL in there too.
