When it comes to being an aspiring writer – ie, a writer to aspires to a range of publishing interests – the Miss Snark Literary Agent blog can serve as a valuable insight into the life of a literary agent.
For one, she provides clear information on what – and what not – to do in the submissions process.
She also helps illustrate just how challenging the life of a literary agent can be.
Here’s a great selection of informative posts from Miss Snark’s now sadly defunct blog:
- The things you do that turn your query into toast
- 10 Nitwiticisms
- Not quite nitwittery cause you didn’t DO it
- 3 Things You Did Today That Scream “Don’t Take Me Seriously”
- Stop wasting your time
- Ok, I know you’re going to hate me for this but…
- Slush pile ROI
- Out of order chapters
One of the biggest challenges to being published often seems to round on the writer themselves – lack of knowledge of the industry, and lack of professionalism. At the very least, Miss Snark’s blog can help address the former.

Miss Snark stopped adding to her blog in 2007, but it’s still up in its entirety. Good, educational reading about the publishing biz.
